What’s Causing Ice To Build Up On The Interior Wall Of My Subzero Refrigerator?

This is a recurring problem. The first time the technician said this usually happens when freon needs to be added. He saw that the freon was very low so he added more until it was at the proper level. We put the wall panel back on and thought the problem was solved. A couple months pass and I notice the same problem again. I have cabinets built around this huge refrigerator so hopefully I don’t have to replace it.

There are only three reasons ice will build up inside your fridge. One is a faulty door seal that is allowing air in and it can freeze if the automatic defroster can’t keep up. The next is a faulty automatic defroster. Third, there’s a leak in the freon line. Personally, I despise that type of patch-and-run service work. If it was low on freon where did it go? Call a reputable service company and have them find the leak and fix it. They have electronic “sniffers” now that can detect the leaking freon.

Have him add fluorescent dye to the refrigerant, which he can do when he comes out again to add more. Then he will be able to find the leak.
